VIERA iDTVs – Going Digital
In many European countries TV channels are beginning to broadcast digitally. Digital technology provides a more efficient way to deliver television than with traditional analogue transmissions whilst enabling the same programmes to be delivered in less space and with greater clarity.
Sound and pictures are converted into a digital format and compressed, using as few bits as possible. Digital signals can be received by standard aerials, satellite dishes or via cable. However, the signals have to be decoded and turned back into sound and pictures via a separate set-top box, or a built-in decoder in the television (an integrated digital TV set/ iDTV).
Our iDTV-enabled VIERA TVs come equipped with integrated digital tuners that allow you to pick up digital channels without needing a separate external set-top box. As the digital tuners are built-in, this eliminates the need for having to connect many cables and/or external setups to receive your programmes - it all works seamlessly and easily right out of the box! This seamless and integrated solution provides you with a higher quality compared to standard analogue reception.
